AS Chipinge Rural District Council’s Ward Two continues grappling with water challenges, calls have been made for Government and development partners to assist with drilling more boreholes in the area to alleviate the burden on villagers.
Ward Two councillor, Councillor Agrippa Mayanga said the situation has become dire.
“We are facing water challenges in this area and many communities are affected. Some walk for long distances stretching up to three kilometres to the nearest point to fetch water. Local schools have also been hit hard as they need water for drinking and other general purposes,” said Cllr Mayanga.
He said villagers are being forced to fetch water from unprotected sources, a situation he said poses a serious health hazard of an outbreak of water-borne diseases like diarrhoea, dysentery and cholera. – Manica Post
