Bee-keeping project sustains three thousand families in Odzi

At least three thousand families in Mapembe rural in Odzi, are pivoting for a massive transformation through a bee keeping venture introduced in the area early this year.
A community with poor crop outcome, Mapembe communal area looks ahead with optimism to the apiary project where earnings are expected to hit at least two hundred united states dollars on every hive when harvesting starts.
Already this is sweet news for the two thousand six hundred families who will benefit directly from this venture.
Kenneth Dzinzi is among those who are set to benefit.
“In our area we do not get good rains and so the crops give us very little income. Apart from this communal venture, I have three other hives which, if I harvest, I will get at least US$200 on each. That means I will have US$600 from my three hives, which is a good figure to help improve my life,” Dzinzi said.
This is a shared position by many who are participating under the bee keeping initiative spearheaded by the Environmental Management Agency.
Mutare District Environmental Officer with the Environmental Management Agency, Ms Odette Chipunza, noted, “We have seen value in this project and we are targeting to ensure it grows and ropes in as many people as possible. We look to expand this project from the current 2600 families and also extend it within communities.”
